Home > Letters of Offer > ADMINISTRATIVE STIPENDS:
Administrative stipends are allowable compensation in recognition of special duties, contributions, or services to the university/department. The duties assigned must be significant and/or higher level duties, outside the normal scope work of the employee's primary position, for a limited time period, and performed within their regular expected working hours.
Example: an employee assumes some additional duties of a higher level position while a search is conducted to refill a higher level position in the department. Example: additional administrative duties while acting as department chair.
In each case, the offer letter must be signed by all appropriate signatories (including dept, dean, & vice president or equivalents) before presentation to the employee for acceptance. In addition, stipends must be approved for each renewal period. The duration of stipends, in meeting temporary compensation needs, typically range from three months to one year, and need not follow the fiscal or academic year calendar. Please contact the Academic Employment Manager, Maria Eldred, at eldredm@pdx.edu or 5-8360 to discuss the situation and request the current letter template.
Please note : administrative stipends may not be used for merit or performance based compensation and will not be approved by the Vice President or Provost. Please refer to the “Special Salary Increase” guidelines to address merit or performance based increases, or refer to OUS Fiscal Policy Manual 57.200 for performance based awards.
