The
Office of Information Technologies maintains an extensive
IT infrastructure that includes a large campus network (wired
and wireless), redundant external network connectivity,
a large number of desktops/laptops (both managed and unmanaged)
and a data center with servers demanding varying degrees
of security. The environment is that of a typical
University which has to balance administrative security
needs with access for academics and researchers. The user
base includes 27,000 students and 3500 faculty and staff.
Job Function
This position reports to the Associate CIO for
Technology Services who is responsible for the infrastructure
related portions of the IT operation. This position
is expected to work closely with the Chief Information Security
Officer and the various technical teams that specialize
in networking, desktops, servers and data center to assist
in the design and implementation of security strategies.
There will be a strong focus on coordinating intrusion detection,
traffic and log analysis and assisting with security based
events at an in-depth technical level in addition to providing
assistance and advice during security considerations in
the design and implementation of systems and network architectures.
Requires
A strong technical grasp of IT security principles that
are manifested by:
- Experience with host-based intrusion detection systems
- Knowledge of network-based IDS (snort, etc), and experience
implementing and maintaining them
- Experience with log gathering from disparate sources and
analysis.
- Knowledge of Unix/Linux security mechanisms, both at the
kernel level and applications level.
- Experience in recommending practical and usable security
mechanisms to prevent, detect, and react to intrusions.
- Web security knowledge is a must; experience with PHP
and Apache configurations
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with technical teams
in designing security infrastructure.
- BS in related field or 5+ years of experience.
- Excellent communication skills

Compensation
This is a full-time, 12 month position with an annual 1.0
FTE salary range of $50,000 - $56,000 plus an excellent
benefits package including fully paid healthcare, reduced
tuition rates, and a generous retirement and vacation package.
