OGA Administrative Manager – Oregon Geographic Alliance – Geography Department - Part-Time

 

The Oregon Geographic Alliance (OGA) is located at Portland State University with funding from the University and grant funding from National Geographic Society and others. OGA's mission is to increase public awareness of the importance of geographic education; to increase the emphasis on geography in grades K-12; and to improve geographic teaching methods and materials.

 

Position Summary

This position will manage the OGA office including the budget, grant funding, and program details and will work closely with the two state co-coordinators, K-12 teachers and university faculty.

This is a part-time position, which averages 10 hours a week, 48 weeks per year.  This is a part-time, one year, renewable position, subject to grant funding. This position is not eligible for benefits.

The OGA offers a flexible schedule.  Extra hours may be required a few times throughout the year.   For example, this position will work approximately five evenings and one Saturday. Extra hours may be required in March to prepare for the spring conference, and the position is full-time for about three weeks in July for summer institutes.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating daily activities for two state co-coordinators, Dr. Teresa Bulman, Geography Department, Portland State University and Dr. Gwenda Rice, College of Education, Western Oregon University
  • Responsible for OGA budget and grant funding
  • Prepare and monitor compliance with annual budgets
  • Develop and monitor budgets for self-support programs
  • Track spending and monitor account balances
  • Ensure adherence to applicable Federal, State, OUS and University policies and procedures
  • Coordination of OGA spring conference
  • Coordination of summer institutes
  • Maintaining membership lists, webpage information, and mailings
  • Travel required for spring conference and possibly for summer institutes. Any overnight expenses are paid by OGA

In the past, these responsibilities have included travel to the Oregon coast, southern Oregon, southeastern (Malheur) Oregon, and eastern (Bend ) Oregon.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Accounting or other budgeting experience
  • Good Excel and word processing skills
  • Experience using the Internet and E-mail
  • Ability to travel as required by the OGA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an educational setting

Compensation

This position pays $25 per hour via monthly timesheets with an ideal start date of June 1, 2008. This is a part-time, one year, renewable position, subject to grant funding. This position is not eligible for benefits.
