MUS-001 - School of Fine and Performing Art - Department of Music- Assistant Professor / Applied Flute - Tenure Track

 

The Department of Music is located in the cultural district of Portland, only three blocks from the Portland Center for the Performing Arts. It maintains close ties with the major musical institutions of the city, and students have many opportunities to interact with professionals in the community. Faculty members in the Department of Music are internationally recognized performers, conductors, composers and scholars. The urban location and mission of the University allows students to pursue innovative options in their musical education. The Department of Music serves over 300 music majors, and offers the BA, BS, and BM degrees at the undergraduate level, and the MAT/MST and MM graduate degrees. Portland State University is the largest university in the Oregon State System of Higher Education and has an enrollment of approximately 28,000 students.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Department of Music at Portland State University is seeking candidates for a.50 FTE tenure track position as Applied Flute at the Assistant Professor level, beginning Fall 2008. The successful candidate will teach studio flute, coach chamber music, direct the flute ensemble, and participate in woodwind area recitals and juries. Candidates must have experience teaching flute and working with a faculty of fellow colleagues in that area. Other duties will be assigned to fulfill Departmental needs. The successful candidate will also recruit vigorously within the greater Portland community and the State of Oregon. Community outreach and both solo and chamber music performances will be important aspects of the position

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates will hold a Masters degree (doctoral preferred) in Flute Performance, or possess equivalent professional experience.
  • Evidence of professional activity at the nationally competitive level, and demonstrated skill in chamber music is required.
