Position
Summary
Portland
State University 's collaborative Payroll tea m is adding
staff and looking for a detail and streamline oriented contributor.
This position reports to the Payroll Supervisor and qualifies
for full participation in our employee benefit package including
FULLY PAID medical and dental for employees and their dependents,
REDUCED tuition, outstanding paid time off programs, and
GENEROUS retirement package, as well as flexible working
hours. The starting annual salary is $34,320 - $36,400.
This position is located on our beautiful and exciting PSU
campus in downtown Portland .
Responsibilities
Primary
responsibilities include: computing and processing manual
checks for pay adjustments and termination payments; coordinating
and processing legal writs and garnishments; handle complex
transactions such as collections of overpayments, conduct
analysis and problem resolution to payroll accounts; process
a variety of account reconciliations; and vendor reconciliations
and remittances. Other responsibilities include: providing
customer service and guidance in relation to payroll questions,
and assist and back up other tea m members to ensure timely
and accurate pay and leave accounting for PSU employees
in accordance with current laws, contracts, and policies.
Required
Qualifications
-
BA in Accounting or Finance, Certified Payroll Professional,
or a combination of experience and closely related coursework
which includes 2+ years in a lead payroll position;

Minimum
2 years related work experience in payroll function including
an understanding of federal and state wage and hour laws,
garnishments and legal writs, and payroll taxation and
interface with employee benefits;

Strong
verbal and written customer service and communication
skills with an ability to understand and explain complex
laws and policies;

Demonstrated
ability to work independently while being a valuable member
of a small close tea m;

Excellent
computer skills including WORD and EXCEL.

Prior
experience in analyzing and problem solving payroll taxation
and/or vendor reconciliations and accounting;

Ability
to be effective and flexible in a rapidly growing and
changing organization;

Experience
with Banner or another integrated payroll database strongly
preferred. CPP preferred.

Ability
to work against tight deadlines when needed.
