GSR-001 - Associate Dean of Graduate Studies - Office of Graduate Studies - Fixed-Term

The Office of Graduate Studies and Research invites nominations and applications, internal to Portland State University, for the position of Associate Dean of Graduate Studies. The Associate Dean works as an integral member of the leadership team for the Office of Graduate Studies and Research and represents the Graduate Office in the absence of the Dean. This position provides leadership for graduate curricular matters, participates in the conduct of graduate program reviews, works with the Office of Admissions, the Graduate Council and School / Departmental groups on issues pertaining to graduate admissions, and provides liaison to both the Graduate Council and the OUS program approval process. The Associate Dean also provides liaison to students and the University regarding Graduate Assistantship issues. This position is closely involved in establishing and interpreting policy and advising both graduate students and members of the faculty on policy and procedural matters. The Associate Dean is broadly engaged in the daily academic activities of the Graduate Office and may also undertake special projects based on current needs and interests.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidate must hold an appropriate terminal degree and be tenured at the rank of Associate Professor or above.
  • Experience acting in liaison and facilitative roles.
  • Experience in advising and mentoring graduate students at both the master's and doctoral level.
  • Experience with supervision of graduate admissions and related administrative activities at the program level.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Experience working with faculty governance process at the university level, such as Graduate or Curriculum Council, is preferred.

 

The initial appointment is for two years; extension of this appointment is at the discretion of the Dean.  Reappointment may be possible. While the position is expected to be filled at .50 FTE, on a 12-month basis, FTE is negotiable.
