EDU-008 - Associate Professor/Professor, Mathematics and/or Science Education - Department of Curriculum and Instruction - Graduate School of Education - Tenured

 

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction invites applications and nominations for a tenured faculty member in Mathematics and/or Science Education.

 

Appointment

Associate Professor/Professor of Education, 1.0 FTE, tenured, nine-month appointment, commencing September 16, 2008. Summer employment is available, but not guaranteed. Responsibilities

In addition to teaching graduate courses in mathematics and/or science education, leading cohorts of preservice teachers through their teacher licensing program, directing doctoral and master's students, and serving on the requisite academic committees of a large urban university; the position requires that the candidate secure and manage the steady flow of funding to support research, teacher education, and other programs in support of mathematics and science education. The successful candidate will collaborate with mathematics and science faculty as well as with education faculty at the university. Collaboration with public school teachers and administrative leaders is also critically important. It is expected that teaching, research and service will actively support the Graduate School of Education's diversity agenda.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

Required Qualifications

  • National reputation in mathematics or science education in one or more of the following: research on teaching and learning, pre-service and in-service teacher education, curriculum development, educational evaluation, and multi-cultural and urban education.
  • Extensive experience in one or more of the following: peer-reviewed publications, national reports and books, curriculum projects, leadership in centers for research and/or teacher development in mathematics or science, major assessments of educational progress and trends.
  • Successful and long-term evidence of continuous grant application, funding, project and people management, and reporting of results. The candidate will also have experience with the inner-working and support of granting agencies.
  • Classroom-based experience with K-12 students and experience teaching preservice and inservice teachers.
  • Meets the qualifications for tenure in the Graduate School of Education (available at: http://oaa.pdx.edu/PromotionAndTenureGuidelines)
