BAO-005 - Director of Research Accounting  - Business Affairs - Fixed-Term

 

Position Summary

Portland State University is seeking applications for a highly motivated and experienced administrator to serve as the Director of Research Accounting. He/she will set the direction for post-award administration at PSU. The Director will be responsible for coordinating the business aspects of post-award administration, including financial reporting, and compliance for sponsored grants and contracts. A primary objective of those services is to facilitate the conduct of research activities at PSU.

 

The Director will work with deans, department chairs, university administration, principal investigators, research administrators, and funding agencies to manage grants and contracts fiscally and programmatically throughout the project period. The position is responsible for interpreting and applying federal, state, and institutional laws, administrative rules, policies and procedures, such as, but not limited to OMB Circular A-21, A-110, A-133, and CAS, Oregon University System (OUS) administrative rules and PSU policies and procedures. The position reports directly to the Director of Business Affairs and collaborates closely with the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP) an entity that is responsible to the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of Finance and Administration, and the entire PSU community. The Director will nurture a healthy, supportive atmosphere for research at the University and create processes that serve faculty and staff.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Accounting, Public Administration or related field is required; Master's degree in Business Management, Accounting, Public Administration or related field preferred.
  • At least five years progressively responsible professional experience in a grant and contract accounting environment with significant experience interpreting and applying federal and state laws and regulations.
  • In depth understanding of the laws, rules and regulations pertaining to research accounting, including but not limited to OMB Circular A-21, A-133, A-110 and Cost Accounting Standards. Knowledge of Oregon University System (OUS) administrative rules highly desirable.
  • At least three years of full range supervisory experience including direct supervision, hiring, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively under deadline pressure while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with the MS Office suite of software products (Word, Excel, Access); working knowledge of SCT SunGard Banner Finance and Grant system software preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellent analytical/problem solving, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service with a strong focus on customer support.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership style that reflects modern practices and promotes diversity in the workplace.
